From Scoutmaster Maney...

Posted on Jan 31 2012 - 12:40am

Good Evening ALL,

GREAT JOB on the Webelos Round Robin!  We had 18 potential Scouts attend and I had heard many good comments about how you did showing them what they could look forward to when they join Boy Scouts.  I am figuring that we will be receiving at least 15 new scouts and maybe more this year. It is amazing that our Scouts can pull off the best Open House for the Cub Scouts that are looking for a Troop to join.

This week we have a PLC Meeting in room 204.  This is just for the Patrol Leaders (Assistant Patrol leader if Patrol Leader can't make it), SPL. ASPLs. Scribe, Quartermasters & ASMs.  (Everyone else has the week off!)

The meeting will be held in Room 204 and will start at 7:30 PM.  It should last about 1 hour if we keep things moving and stay focused.

This Sunday 2-5-12  is Scout Sunday.   ALL Scouts are expected to attend a church service in their Scout Uniform. You can attend your our Church or if you would like you can attend with the Troop at St. James Church.  We will be attending as a Troop at the 11 o'clock service. We'll meet in our normal Troop Meeting Room at 10:30 and will sit together.

Have a GREAT WEEK!!!! I will see you next week.

Yours in Scouting,

Mr. Maney

PA Dutch Council & Horseshoe Trail District Websites Under Construction

Posted on Jan 16 2012 - 9:06pm

Both of the above web sites are being renovated/converted over to the same format as the BSA National site.

Thus far, the Council web site appears to be partially up and the District site is under construction.

...in case anyone attempts to access them and gets the "404 Error - Web Site Unavailable".

NEW "Calendar Sync" Now Available

Posted on Jan 16 2012 - 8:00pm

Parents/Scouts - Tired of having to manually enter upcoming troop meetings and events into your on-line calendars?

The makers of SOAR (the application that we use for our website) now have a new feature which we can use.

If you have any of the "smart" phones (Androids, iPhone, iPad, Windows phone), you can now synchronize your device with our troop website...more accurately, you can import our calendar entries into a number of electronic calendars which you may be using (Outlook, iCalendar, Google Calendar, etc.).

1. After signing-on to the website, go to the top left of the screen...

2. Under the User area, following your UserID you should see "Calendar Sync"

3. Click on Calendar Sync and follow the directions!

Ski/Snowboarding Campout - 2/10-12

Posted on Jan 16 2012 - 7:44pm

On-line sign up is now open for the February 10-12 Snowboard/Ski Outing.  Please go to the troop website to register.  This event is limited to the first 34 scouts and 6 leaders.  Traditionally this event fills up quickly, so act now.

Leaders, this trip is dependent on having proper supervision and transportation.  You do not have to ski or snowboard, so do not hesitate to participate.

Parents, as with all Troop 142 overnight outings, adult participation for this event is limited to only those with proper BSA and Diocese of Harrisburg youth protection clearance.

Feel free to contact me with any questions.

Yours in Scouting,

ASM Bill Armstrong

Winter High Adventure Trip - 2/25-2/26/12

Posted on Jan 16 2012 - 7:42pm

Attention High Adventure Scouts!

It's time to brave the elements with ASM Andy Lataishen and experience the fun of backpacking in a hopefully "winter wonderland"!

Here's the basic details (more details on the calendar)...

This is a 9.5 mile ovedrnight Backpacking trip to Pinchot Trail.

Trip Open to 10 total – 2 adults, 8 scouts

Itinerary:

Leave at 5:00 a.m. Saturday, February 25, 2011 from ASM Latanishen’s house, 103 Gingrich Drive, Lititz, PA

Return: 6:00 p.m. Sunday February 26, 2011 to ASM Latanishen’s house

Pinchot trail is located on the Pocono Plateau.  The nearest town is Thornhurst, PA. We will be hiking approximately a 9 mile loop.  Thus, overall mileage is low at 4.5 miles per day.  The trail will offer two scenic overlooks of expansive forest.  The trail is sheltered by hemlocks next to a gurgling creek and a passing bog area.  My hope is this will be a snow shoe trip.  We will use the troop’s snow shoes.  Ideally, 20” of snow would be perfect.

Wood Badge Training For The 21st Century

Posted on Jan 16 2012 - 7:38pm

Attention Registered Adult Leaders!

The PA Dutch and Chester County Coucils are again jpoining together to offer Wood Badge Training For The 21st Century which is being held on two weekends: April 13-15 and May 5-7.   (You must attend both weekends.)

For full details on the course, qualifications, training rquirements, costs (sorry, but this this is not covered by the troop), uniform needs and course location, please click on the following link:
